Active and passive management

Investment funds are managed in one of two ways:

- Active management – a style of investment management where the Fund Manager aims to outperform a benchmark through asset allocation, market timing or stock selection, or a combination of all three.

- Passive Management -  a style of investment management where the Fund Manager links investments to a particular index, for example the FTSE All Share Index, so that the value of the investment moves in line with that particular index.
